My work is grounded in the duality of the human experience, intellect verses instinct. As such, my experiences within the domestic realm have played an important role in my art making, for it is the knowledge gained through this arena that forms the basis for my art. While the content of my work is highly personal, it is derived from a deep and long held interest in the female condition. Patriarchy and the social construction of gender roles, nurture/nature, and the division of labor between the sexes and its role in the acquisition of time are all issues that I explore.

In regards to my manner of art making, it is important to make the distinction that, throughout my work, form follows content. Not only does this mean that my work is content driven, but that the often diverse materials and techniques I employ are dictated by content as well. Thus my studio work often necessitates exploration into new materials and techniques.

Over time I have developed an ever evolving personal visual language. The resulting symbols I employ, as well as the objects I create, are hatched spontaneously from my subconscious. Often it is intuition that dominates this process, and the resulting works are organic and highly tactile in nature. While at other times, the visual language I employ is coupled with political, scientific or historical references, and my work becomes to a greater degree intellectually based. In either event, the contextualization of my work is dependent upon the viewer’s point of reference. In a sense, what began as a conversation with myself has taken root and grown into the meanings I make manifest within my studio. Thus each of the artworks I create exists as both a personal and public dialogue.
