Sept. 1, 2015 - The Piper has closed: It is of a bittersweet feeling for me to report that the Piper restaurant has closed its doors after 31 seasons of operations in Macatawa at Eldean Shipyard. Pat Eldean (my Mom), opened the restaurant as the Sandpiper in 1985 and has continued to own and manage the restaurant ever since. Over that time, Pat has worked tirelessly to provide an outstanding dining experience for her guests, providing high quality service, creative entrées with unique & remarkable flavors, and a fun and family friendly environment. Guests have chosen the Piper to celebrate their most cherished occasions like Birthdays, Weddings, and Anniversaries. The clientele have been fantastic! One of the highlights of Pat's workday was working the hostess desk on a busy night while greeting and helping each guest. Over the years, Pat has trained and had the support of several hundred employees, both restaurant professionals and young people entering their first jobs. These employees have been an integral part of the Piper's success, including Chef Keaton Stearns who has been creating amazing recipes and running the kitchen for the past 17 years.
But alas, retirement calls and Pat's days of being a restaurateur are now behind her. She looks forward to a new stage of life focused on more time with her four grandchildren, traveling, and volunteering her time and talents in our community.
The next phase of the Piper Building is also upon us. The building is being remodeled to contain both the Harbor View Lofts residential condominiums for rent/lease and also a small restaurant and bar. If you are a restaurateur and would like to lease/open a restaurant in the new space, please give me a call. Go to LakeMacatawaVacationRentals.com for more information on the Harbor View Lofts.
Thanks Mom for the many years that the Piper has cooked for us and for all your hard work that has made it all happen!
